How to Install Fabric and Fabric Mods
If you're using the abfielder.com website it's because you want to take advantage of the 1000's of wonderful litematics it has to offer, to that you need to install fabric and fabric mods.
The great news about Fabric is it's pretty lightweight and you can use client side mods whilst still being able to play on vanilla miencraft servers, this guide will teach you how to install fabric, mods and where to get those mods from.
Install Fabric
- Firstly you need to download the Fabric Loader which you can get here
- Assuming you're on Windows then click Download for Windows which will download the exe.
- This will download the Fabric Loader to your downloads folder like in the screenshot below
- Double click on the exe and you will now see the screen below.
- Select your Minecraft Version, leave the loader version as the latest unless you have a reason to change it, select your Minecraft install location, the default will be fine unless you changed it.
- Make sure the Minecraft Launcher is closed, then click install and let it do it's thing.
- When completed, click ok.
- Now open the Minecraft Launcher, we need to run Minecraft once to create the Mods folder.
- To the left of the Play button you should see a drop down box like in the screenshot below, select the fabric loader version you just installed and click Play.
Installing your first Fabric Mod
If you've followed all the steps above, then you now have fabric installed and a "Mod" folder in the minecraft directory, don't worry I'll show you how to find that soon.
Now we need to install a mod, for the purposes of this article we're going to install the Fabric API (which is different to the loader and required by most Fabric Mods).
- First head to a website to download mods, there are two that I use. Modrinth and Curseforge> I prefer Modrinth but some mods like litematica are only on curseforge.

- Select the correct version for the version of Minecraft you are playing, most times the version that's labeled 1.20.1 isn't going to work in 1.19.4
- Once downloaded you'll have a .jar file in your downloads folder like in the screenshow below.
- Right click on the jar and either copy or cut it, ready to stick in your mod folder.
- In the explorer bar, type in %appdata%\.minecraft\Mods and hit Enter (like in the screenshot below) if you haven't changed your Minecraft directory then this will take you exactly where you need to go.
- Simply paste the jar file into this folder and you're done. Relaunch Minecraft and your mod will be installed.
- Now all you need to do is follow these steps for each mod you want to download. Some mods might need other mods (called dependencies to work, these should be listed on the mods info page).
