@batsieboo each little storage module will have a hopper pointing into a comparator, and into that you just gotta put 44 of an item you aren't gonna ever sort in the 4 rightmost slots, and then 1 of the item you wanna sort out in the leftmost slot. basically the redstone is turning the hopper off until you get more than 45 items in the hopper, and since the only item that can go into each hopper is the one that you wanna sort, it'll pick up only the item you want in that area and then turn on the hopper, letting that item down into the chest
