Villagers need to have slept within a certain number of days (I can't remember how many without going back and reading up on the mechanics). If they haven't slept then golems don't spawn, they only need to sleep for a fraction of a second each night for it to work. If the farm gets unloaded then that timer can get a little messed up and you don't see stuff spawn until the next time they sleep.

ohh so i just need to wait at the farm for a couple days so the villagers sleep those days, then im good to come back whenever?

Why does this farm only work at night for me? I built it over a warm ocean pretty close to land and have 3 villagers and have nametagged the zombies. Is it supposed to work during the day?
